We’re back with two new teams. The rules say we have to have between 3 and 6 people and we had 7 people sign up.
So we have split into two, one team is made up of year 10 students and the other has year 11 students. We also have some U6 students joining us as consultants having completed the Competition in previous years.
First thing we needed to do was the decide the mission that we were going to do.
Rescue Can: we thought it would be good to develop a can that can be dropped in a rough region of lost people. It will then play a noise to call the people to it. Once they have the can they can press the red button on top which will send the GPS co-ordinates back to the rescuers. By making it small and keeping costs down multiple can can be dropped if needed over the area.
DROP: DROP stands for Descent Research on Parachutes. Last year we really enjoyed making the parachute but there were no marks in the competition for this as it was outside our mission. So this year we are going to incorporate the parachute into the mission and investigate parachute design and can stability as it falls. The pictures are of last year’s parachute.
